Inclement Weather

Those forces of nature beyond our control

Gardening in containers can be a mixed blessing when you are faced with bad weather. On the one hand, containers are great because you can move them to protect your plants from damage. On the other hand, you may have to move them to protect them from damage. Unless your pots are very heavy, strong winds or rain will very likely topple them over - causing much distress for you and your plants.

You can avoid problems with weather by creating a sheltered area on your porch or balcony, or keeping a tarp handy to protect window boxes or other containers that are hard to move. Try to keep an eye on the weather, so you can plan ahead to protect your plants from strong wind or heavy rain.

If you leave your plants outside during a heavy rain, be sure to check on them after the rain stops and remove excess water from their pots.
