Cedar is a great choice for building window boxes. Cedar trees grow in the Pacific Northwest, where the weather is damp, and fungus, microorganisms and insects subject trees to destructive conditions. Trees such as the cedar have developed self-protective qualities that allow the tree to fend off insects, rot and temperature related stresses. This makes cedar wood very useful for building window boxes, where humidity, temperature, and cracking can be a problem. Unfinished cedar window box ready for any finish - or, leave it raw for a rustic look. Light sanding may be required.
